May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM) and those of us at Hearing First are super excited since we celebrate children who are deaf or hard of hearing learning to listen and talk every day.

Hearing First exists to power the potential of children touched by hearing loss by promoting best practices for early identification, timely fitting of hearing technology and LSL early intervention.

As we join the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) in celebrating BHSM, we are passionate about supporting families and all that is possible today for children touched by hearing loss. This year’s theme, “Communication Takes Care”, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance for every parent to “Take Care” and know the status of your baby’s hearing first. Why? Because hearing is a foundational building block for children to learn to listen and talk, become healthy readers, and do well in school.

Raising awareness that today’s children who are deaf or hard of hearing are learning to listen and talk like their hearing friends has never been more important. Join us in the Better Hearing and Speech Month conversation on Facebook and Twitter. Just use #BHSM on Twitter and visit us on our Facebook page. You can also join the ASHA Facebook page here.

We look forward to connecting with you as we celebrate BHSM 2016.
