February can be associated with a lot of things: hearts, roses, and chocolates of course. But there’s one aspect of February that can make the month special for the families and professionals helping children who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to listen and talk: Hearing First’s yearly Live Love LSL campaign! Read below to join us in celebrating the joys that Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) can bring, and learn how you can help spread awareness of all the possibilities for positive LSL outcomes.

February is one of our favorite months at Hearing First, because it means it’s time to throw our focus on public awareness of listening and spoken language outcomes for children with hearing loss during our Live Love LSL Campaign. Did you know it’s possible for children who are deaf or hard of hearing to learn to listen, talk and read at grade level by third grade? Whether you're a family member of a child who is learning to listen and talk or your a professional serving families on their LSL journey, this campaign is for you!

What is Live Love LSL?
Live Love LSL is an opportunity for us, the LSL community, to help spread awareness that children who are deaf or hard of hearing can learn to listen and talk and to celebrate the outcomes made possible with Listening and Spoken Language!

Why Should I Participate?
While there are so many good reasons to help spread the love of Listening and Spoken Language, here are a few to focus on this month:

  • Help Make LSL Mainstream. In order for families to choose LSL, they need to know about LSL. Participating in Live Love LSL helps get the word out and reach parents who aren’t aware of the benefits of LSL. In order for them to know it, we have to show it!

  • Support Others on the LSL Journey. Your story may be just the message another family or professional needs to hear to help them maintain their momentum, persevere and feel encouraged. Sharing your stories and experiences in the Hearing First communities and on social media tells families and professionals they can and will get through it.

How Can I Help Spread Awareness or Celebrate?
